What Actually is Dedicated Servers Web Hosting?

When we talk about web hosting servers, there are three basic types - shared web hosting servers, VPS (virtual servers) and dedicated web hosting servers. Shared servers accommodate lots of customers and hence the system resources per user account are limited, virtual private server packages give you more server configuration independence, but also influence other virtual private web servers on the hardware node if used unwisely, and dedicated servers give you the opportunity to carry out everything you think fit without intervening with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated web hosting server?

Dedicated servers are traditionally much more high-priced than shared servers or virtual private web servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The reply is very simple. If your firm has a resource-absorbing web site, or just has very specific web server setup requirements, the most appropriate option would be a dedicated server. For somebody who is willing to invest in safety and dependability, the bigger price is not a problem. You have full server root privileges and can utilize 100 percent of the physical machine's system resources without anyone else utilizing these resources and interfering with your web pages.

Hardware specifications

The majority of shared web hosting companies, incl. us at HostPlenty.com, offer several different hardware architectures you can choose from as per your necessities. The hardware architectures offer different kinds of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM memory and hard drive sizes and different monthly bandwidth usage quotas. You can choose a web hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient GUI if you want to use the dedicated hosting server for hosting purposes only and choose not to use an SSH client for all the changes you will be making. We offer three types of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The Control Panel of your preference

If you are a self-reliant Linux OS user (our dedicated web hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated server through an SSH console only. That, however, could be inconvenient, particularly if you decide to give full server root privileges to someone else who has less technical knowledge than yourself. That is why having Control Panel software pre-activated is a good idea. The Hepsia web hosting CP tool that we provide does not offer full root-level access and is chiefly suitable for somebody who owns plenty of online portals that require plenty of system resources, but wishes to administer the web pages, databases and email aliases using an easy-to-use Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full root-level access and offer 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell web hosting packages instead of using the dedicated hosting web server just for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated web hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your hosting server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a network outage, it is useful to have some kind of monitoring platform enabled. Here at HostPlenty.com the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated web hosting server as well. Backups are also a bonus feature - the company offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would allow you to keep the very same data on two hard disk drives as a protective measure in the event of a server disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete server root access erases something by accident.
